About French books: very recent (fall 2014) would highly recommend “Le Bonheur National Brut” by François Roux. Called un roman générationnel, it looks at the lives of 4 boys who are 18 in 1981 when Mitterand is elected.1st part covers 1981 to 1984, then fast forward to 2009 until the election of François Hollande. Of course I lived through these years and it makes it that more relevant, but interesting in a sociological point of view (but still a novel) xx

  2. Merci Monique – am adding post haste onto the Wish List page – d’un François à l’autre indeed, and always very intrigued by anything on the state of national happiness here in France. Just looked on and all the reviewers agree with you. Brilliant, thanks for the recommendation, Nx
